Winter trip to Brno

The third weekend in January I thought it would be great to visit another czech city during the winter when everywhere was so much snow. With my girlfriend I chose the second biggest city in the Czech Republic – Brno.

We went by a train from Ústí nad Labem at about 7 AM to Prague where we changed trains and after 4 hours we were finally in Brno. From the train station we wanted to go to Petrov but there was a closed gate so we just stopped there and then we continued to Freedom Square. There is situated funny astronomical clock and as always we had to take a photo with that.

Our next stop was Špilberk Castle. The castle is situated at the top of the hill and it was a little bit harder to get there because the path was icy. On our last trip the temperature was about -15°C and this time we had so much better weather, only -5°C 😀 so it wasn’t that bad. When we finally climbed to the top of the hill we walked around the castle and we took a few photos with the beautiful view of Brno.

When we were at the castle we were thinking what to visit next and we chose the option to go home. We spent in Brno about two and half hours and it was enough in that cold weather. To the train station we came just a few minutes before the train arrived so it was perfectly timed. Well, after another 5 hours we were finally home 😀

The second trip in 2017 – Karlovy Vary in winter

After our first trip in 2017 to Prague, we traveled to our next destination, to a spa city Karlovy Vary. We went in a first class train again, but this time, it looked like a normal train, nothing special, just a little bit more space for legs. To the city of Karlovy Vary we arrived after two hours by a train from our departure station Ústí nad Labem.

When we arrived, we thought a station in Karlovy Vary will be already new, because the station should have been finished in the summer last year, but they still construct the new station. After a quick look at the station it was a time to go to the city centre. There was so much snow everywhere so it was hard  to go there but we did it.

In the city centre we went around Hotel Thermal, where the International Film Festival Karlovy Vary take a place every year and we continued to the beautiful Mill Colonnade. In the city there are so many Russian people, almost 90 % of people we met, were Russians. We felt like we are in Russia. We wanted to go to the roof of Mill Colonnade but the doors were closed so we went to some viewpoint over the colonnade and it was so hard to get there because the stairs were so slippery because the snow and ice were everywhere. But the view was beautiful, so we took a few photos and we had to go down from the stairs and it was again so funny and hard to go down.

Around Hot Spring Colonnade and alongside the river Teplá we were after a few minutes next to the Grandhotel Pupp, which is so beautiful and big hotel where the Casino Royale with James Bond was filmed. We had to take a few photos again and then it was a great time to see Karlovy Vary from above. We went by funicular Diana to the station Jelení skok from where we went to my favorite view point where you can see the whole city centre from above. It was a great walk through a lot of snow to the view point where we took a lot of photos and then it was time to go down to the city centre because we had to catch our train. It wasn’t easy to go down from the hill because the way was so slippery and we fell down many times :D. But we made it and to the train station we came in time.

We had wet shoes and socks but it was another great winter trip to the beautiful Czech city Karlovy Vary.

Photos from this and other trips you can find, as always, on my Instagram profile: @pmottl.

The first trip in 2017 – Winter Prague

The first weekend of 2017 me and my girlfriend we started on the way. We had an opportunity to travel wherever we wanted in the Czech Republic in the first class trains so we decided to go to Prague on Saturday (because we have never been to Prague when there was a snow) and the next day we went to Karlovy Vary. This post will be about our trip to Prague.

We started as always in Ústí nad Labem and from there we went by Eurocity train directly to Prague. The train was full of people, but we could travel in the frist class, so we went there and there were only a few people, it was cool to have first class just for us.

The first station in Prague was Holešovice and it was the station where we got off the train and our walk through the frozen Prague could started. That day was almost -15 °C but we were properly dressed, so it wasn’t so cold for us.

Our first stop was next to Výstaviště Praha, where we took our first photos and then we continued to AC Sparta Prague stadium, which is the stadium of my favorite team. The next stop was Prague Metronome on Letná near the stadium and there is one of my most favorite views of Prague. We took a lot of photos there and it was time to move on.

As the last time we wanted to visit Prague Castle, but when we came near the castle there were so many people waiting for a security check. I hate waiting in the line and it was so cold so we walked around the castle and we went on Hradčany Square where is another entrance, but again, there were so many people waiting in the line. At least we took there few pictures of Prague roofs with a snow and there was a beautiful view.

From the square we went down to Lesser Town and when we came near the Charles Bridge I decided to climb to Lesser Town Bridge Tower which was on my list to visit. There is an amazing view of Charles Bridge, Prague Castle and Lesser Town, you should definitely go there if you will be in Prague!

After we crossed the Charles Bridge, we went to the Old Town Square for a few minutes, then we went to shopping mall Palladium for something to eat and then we went by subway to IKEA because we had a lot of time and we wanted to look for something. We bought there only a few things and after about an hour we went by a subway to the train station to wait for a train back to Ústí nad Labem.

It was a great trip, our first to Prague during the snow season and we enjoyed it there. Also the first class was great but only because we had a privacy and we were in the railway car almost alone, not so special as we thought.

You can check out my photos from the trip on my Instagram, as always!

Trip to Prague during the Christmas markets

After a long time, me and my girlfriend we wanted to go on a trip, we were deciding if we will go to Prague or to Dresden. Prague won, because we were in Dresden a short time ago. On Saturday 10th of December we went to Prague!

From Ústí nad Labem we went before 8 AM and to Prague we arrived at 9 AM. The first thing I wanted to visit was Prašná brána where I wanted to climb up to the view tower to see Prague from above. Prašná brána was opening at 10 AM so we slowly went to take some photos to Old Town Square because we expected there won’t be a lot of people early in the morning, but unfortunately, there were so many people yet. At least we took a few photos of beautiful Staroměstský orloj (Prague astronomical clock) and a christmas tree with Týnský chrám (Church of Our Lady before Týn).

After a visiting Old Town Square it was almost 10 AM so we went back to Prašná brána and I could finally go up there! There were so beautiful views of Prague Castle, Žižkov TV Tower, Orloj and beautiful red roofs of Prague. I spent at the top of the tower almost half an hour and it was worth it.

At Prašná brána I took a lot of and our walk through Prague could continue. We went again to Old Town Square but we stopped there only for a while and then our next stop was The Charles Bridge. We went to Staroměstská mostecká věž but only to the half, because you don’t have to pay there and you can take photos from windows (typically czech :D). After we took a few photos we continued through very crowded Charles Bridge to Kampa Island where are another beautiful views of the bridge and nearby there is situated John Lennon Wall where you can write or draw anything you want.

John Lennon Wall was beautiful and our another location to visit was Petřín. We were there many times but this time we choose a different way. We were across a cable way throught Petřínské sady and there were another beautiful views of Prague and Prague Castle with St. Vitus Cathedral. It took almost an hour to climb up there but at least we didn’t have to wait in the long line to cable car. We walked through surroundings of Petřín Lookout Tower and then our another stop was Prague Castle. I had a plan to go through the castle to Letná but there is a new rule that you have to go through a security check if you want to visit the castle and there was a big waiting line so I was disappointed with that and we didn’t go there.

We went from Hradčanské náměstí down to Malá Strana and we went to take a look to a lot of swans near the Charles Bridge. We spent a few minutes by feeding the swans and we were hungry yet so it was a time to go somewhere for a food. We decided to visit KFC where we wanted to sit for a while to have a break for a while but it was full of people so we took a food away and we ate it while walking back to the Old Town Square. There were so many people and I was already tired because I slept only 3 hours so it was a time to go back to the train station wait for a train. On the way to the train station we wanted to visit Hamleys at Wenceslas Square but again there were so many people so we didn’t go there.

It was an amazing trip to Prague and if you would like to see the photos that I took, just visit visit my Instagram: @pmottl.

Autumn trip around Bohemian Switzerland

After a few weeks I decided to go with my girlfriend somewhere on a trip. Our goal was to walk around a part of Bohemian Switzerland National Park.

We went by a train from Ústí nad Labem to Děčín where we had to change a train for a bus and we went to Mezní Louka, where our walk started. By the start we went little bit slower, because we had to stop almost every 50 metres to take a photos of beautiful fallen autumn leaves and colored forests. We were taking photos all the time and after a while we were at our first goal – Pravčická Brána which is a narrow rock formation and the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe. Such a beautiful place! We spent there about 30 minutes by taking a photos and we rested a little bit after a tough ascent.

Then we continued about an hour to Hřensko from where we went to marina of Edmundova soutěska. Again we took a lots of photos during the way and after 20 minutes we were at the marina. It was so beautiful there so we rested there for a while and then we were on our way back to Hřensko where we had to wait for a bus.

The bus arrived after 40 minutes of waiting and in Děčín we catched the first train to Ústí nad Labem and we went home.

It was such an amazing trip and if you ever will be in the Czech Republic I highly recommend you to visit Bohemian Switzerland National Park.

The photos from this and other trips you can find on my Instagram @pmottl.

How to travel around the Czech Republic on a budget! Tip for very cheap travelling!

Hello! If you wonder how to travel around the Czech Republic in summer at low cost, this article is just for you! Czech Railways (České dráhy) offer cheap ticket in summer for one or two weeks. The ticket is called Ticket for Summer (Jízdenka na léto) and it will cost you just 790 CZK (30 EUR) for one week or 1190 CZK (44 EUR) for two weeks of traveling. You can travel wherever you want in the Czech Republic by a train in 2nd class.

We live in Ústí nad Labem, it is situated in the north of the Czech Republic and it has great train connections with other cities. So every morning we traveled somewhere and in the evening we came back home. If you would like to travel on a budget, I recommend you to stay somewhere where you can be accommodated cheaply and do the same as we did. Or if you are an adventurer, you can find some train which goes through night and sleep there, it is possible too.

Here is a list of places we visited and I recommend you to visit them too.
These places we visited with my girlfriend in 2015: Karlštejn castle, Prague (4 times), Hradec Králové, Pardubice, Karlovy Vary, Liberec, Mariánské Lázně, Brno, Plzeň, Olomouc and České Budějovice.

These places we visited with my girlfriend in 2016: Brno, Karlovy Vary, Olomouc, Plzeň, Karlštejn castle, Velká Amerika, Bezděz, Máchovo jezero, Prague (3 times), Mariánské Lázně and Kutná Hora.

If we would travel for normal ticket price, we would have to pay more than 6000 CZK (222 eur) for one person in 2015 and 4000 CZK (148 EUR) for one person in 2016. It means together we saved 9620 CZK (326 EUR) in 2015 and 5620 CZK (208 EUR) in 2016.

It definitely worth to buy Ticket for Summer offered by Czech Railways, it will save you a lot of money if you want to travel around the beautiful Czech Republic.

Walk to the tallest freestanding transmission tower in Czech Republic

After a long time I decided with my girlfriend to go to some trip near to our town. From many places in Ústí nad Labem we can see Buková hora TV Tower but we have never been there, until now.

To get to the mountain where is situated the TV Tower we had to go to Zubrnice by old train from 1951. As we arrived to Zubrnice we visited exhibition of their museum at the train station and then we walked up the hill to the peak.

Almost 2 hours and we were under the tower! The tower is 223 metres tall refering to Wikipedia. Near to the tower is located Humboldt viewpoint where you can see the city of Ústí nad Labem from distance. The visibility was great so we were happy to see that beautiful view.

We spent about half an hour at the top of the mountain and we had to go to village Malé Březno from where we went home by a bus. To the village we came after another two hour walking and after a few minutes our bus came so we could go home.

It was one of our first spring trips this year and we will continue with another soon!

Červená Lhota Castle

Trip to the beautiful castle Červená Lhota is my favorite one! From the village in Vysočina where we stayed about a week in summer it is about 15 kilometres by walk. That day we went to the castle it was again so sunny as almost whole summer 2015. We didn’t pack a lot of things, just our camera stuff and some snack.

We headed through forests, meadows and agricultural roads and we were taking pictures of that beautiful nature.

We had to drink a lot of water because of the hot weather. We were on our way about two and half hour and finally we were near to the beautiful red château called Červená Lhota. It is a water castle located in eastern part of South Bohemia on the north of Jindřichův Hradec region and it is the third most visited castle in South Bohemia after Český Krumlov Castle and Hluboká Castle.

Close to the castle there is a parking place and it was full of cars. Last time we were there it was totally empty and we were there alone. This time there were so many people. We went around the pond and we had to avoid a lot people because as I said, it was full of people. As always we were taking a lot of photos and I recorded a few minutes of video.

We spent there about 2 hours and it was time to go to catch our bus back to the cottage. We had to change the bus two times before we were at the place.

Trip to the beautiful castle Červená Lhota was one of the best we made in the summer.

Jindřichův Hradec – city on the south

It was a sunny day at village when we decided to visit the nearest big city Jindřichův Hradec which is approximately 25 kilometres from the village where we stayed.

To get there we had to walk to other village about 3 kilometres. There is a station of narrow-gauge railway and our train arrived a few minutes after we came to the station. That train looked like submarine and there were damaged air-conditioner so it was so hot inside because there isn’t possibility to open windows. The only one good thing in this train was free Wi-Fi and I could plan what to visit.

To the city of Jindřichův Hradec we arrived after about one hour and then we headed from train station to the city center. There is beautiful castle so we walked around the castle and we were taking some pictures.

When we were there a year before I wanted to visit view tower but it was already closed. This time I had luck and I could go up watch the whole city from above. I saw the whole Vajgar pond which is the biggest pond in the city center.

In the downtown there is some aqua show which is hard to find but we made it! It was great show and the fountain sang classic czech symphonic poem Vltava.

We were tired because of that hot weather so we decided it is time to go back to cottage. We hoped we won’t go by the same train with broken air-conditioner but we went with this train again. Such a bad luck! After an hour we changed train for bus in Kamenice nad Lipou from where we went at our place.

It was again a great trip to the beautiful city of Jindřichův Hradec and a few days later we went to another trip. We visited gorgeous castle Červená Lhota, the next post will be about this trip!

Our way to Vysočina Region

A week left after our 14 days trip around the Czech Republic and I with my girlfriend planned next trip. We were at my grandparents cottage a year ago so it was a great time to visit them again. It happened on 21st of July 2015 when we decided to go!

Our way started as usual at Ústí nad Labem main railway station from where we headed to Prague. There we changed trains and then to Tábor which is about 220 kilometres from our home. The way was quite fast and we arrived to Tábor after about two and half hours in a train.

In Tábor we had to wait 2 hours for our bus so we made a tour around the city. We visited historical center which is old and beautiful. I saw in a distance there is a view tower and I had to go up! That beautiful view on the roofs of historical buildings was so gorgeous, you should see it!

An hour passed and we remembered the bus is coming soon. The bus station is not right in the historical center so we walked fastly to catch our bus. We caught the bus and after 1 hour we were finally in our destination in a small village.

The first day in a village we explored if there is something new but there wasn’t any so we planned we will visit the places we already visited in the past. Near the village there is Červená Lhota Castle, Kamenice nad Lipou and Jindřichův Hradec, where is a Narrow-gauge railway. We visited these places but about our trips there I will write next time.
